James Still

Australian insurance broker, business owner and InsurTech builder based in Ballarat, Victoria.

James Still is an Australian insurance broker, business owner and InsurTech entrepreneur based in Ballarat, Victoria. He is the Founder, Director and Principal Broker of Still Insured, a brokerage specialising in commercial insurance, transport and logistics, property, liability and complex insurance risks.

His career began in 2014 through an unexpected change in direction. Having pursued interests and studies outside insurance, including psychology, counselling and veterinary studies, James joined his father's business to help with what was initially intended to be its closure.

Instead, the experience introduced him to the relationships, problem-solving and variety of work that would define his professional career.

Over the following decade, James developed his insurance expertise while working within the family business. He subsequently established Still Insured and acquired the insurance portfolio of David J Still & Associates in December 2024.

His professional work has increasingly focused on specialist risks, particularly those where traditional insurance products or standard underwriting processes struggle to accommodate the realities of a client's business.

His work has been featured in national industry publications covering trucking insurance, fashion and event risks, underwriting relationships, insurance affordability and disaster resilience.

In 2025, James was named the NIBA–Vero Victorian/Tasmanian Young Broker of the Year before receiving the national Young Broker of the Year award. In 2026, he won the Australia Underwriting Broker of the Year award at the Insurance Business Australia Awards.

Alongside his brokerage, James is developing technology and specialist distribution concepts intended to make insurance administration more efficient, improve risk discovery and preserve the value of human advice.

He has also participated in industry education, professional development and community recovery initiatives, including work connected with flood-affected communities in Far North Queensland and Western Australia.

His ongoing interests include entrepreneurship, technology, professional relationships, insurance accessibility and creating practical solutions for underserved customers.
